Psychosocial Interventions

In the HEAL lab, we develop and test the effectiveness of brief psychosocial interventions with the aim of improving eating behaviours, body image, and weight-based stigma. We have developed and tested the impact of motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioural therapy interventions on bariatric surgery patients’ eating behaviours and well-being. We have also conducted systematic reviews examining psychosocial interventions for bariatric surgery patients and psychosocial interventions for ultra-processed food addiction. Several graduate students in the HEAL lab have examined single-session interventions, such as self-compassion and cognitive strategies, for improving body image and internalized weight stigma.
