We are committed to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in everything we do, including:
Student, volunteer, and personnel recruitment and retention
- We welcome prospective lab members who are interested in advancing EDI in our work. We strongly encourage applications from members of groups that have been historically disadvantaged and marginalized, including First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, Indigenous peoples of North America, Black-identified persons, other racialized persons, persons with disabilities, and those who identify as women and/or 2SLGBTQ+ .
- We aim to cultivate an inclusive and respectful learning environment in which lab members are comfortable asking questions, making suggestions, expressing their point of view, voicing dissent, and asking for help. Hostile, discriminatory, or unsupportive behaviors are never tolerated.
Research and collaboration
- We recognize that the fields of psychology and cognitive neuroscience have contributed to systemic discrimination throughout their history. We aim to reduce bias and discrimination in our own research by engaging with new theoretical and methodological developments, and by embracing open and transparent scientific practices.
- We are continually working on improving our recruitment practices so that the participants in our research studies reflect the diversity of the world around us.
Knowledge mobilization
- By advancing basic and applied science, we seek to contribute knowledge that will benefit society as a whole.
- We recognize our responsibility in mobilizing this knowledge to different stakeholders, including other researchers and the general public. We make every attempt to share our research with a broad audience, using a variety of outreach initiatives and communication channels.
