Lab Director
Dr. Lili Ma
Dr. Ma received her Ph.D. degree in developmental psychology from the University of Virginia in 2007. After graduate school, she completed postdoctoral training at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of British Columbia. She joined Toronto Metropolitan University in 2010 and is now an associate professor.

PhD Student
Avishag Frank
Avishag Frank is a PhD student in the Early Childhood Cognition Lab. She completed her MA at TMU in Psychology. Her research focuses on whether there is a negativity bias in children’s trust. She is also interested in children’s development in a digital world.

Roksana Dobrin-De Grâce
Roksana (Roxy) Dobrin-De Grace is a doctoral student in the Early Childhood Cognition Lab. Her work examines the development of prosocial behaviours, especially politeness and considerate behaviour, in early childhood. She is also an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) and is passionate about teaching. On her free time, Roxy likes to read about history and play video games.

Emma Marquis
Emma is a second year MA student in the psychological science program. She completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Neuroscience at Wilfrid Laurier University. Her MA thesis examines children’s experience of choice overload in an online platform.

Research Assistant
Noah Rich
Noah is a fourth-year undergraduate student at Toronto Metropolitan University majoring in psychology. In addition to his work at the ECC, Noah is currently writing his undergraduate thesis at the SMART lab on the effects of rhythmic priming on emotional prosody. Beyond work at psychology labs at TMU, Noah works with Amber Health, an American company, to bring mental health initiatives to the music industry. He is pursuing a future in cognitive psychology.

Sama Walizada
Sama is a second-year psychology undergraduate, an ECA, and a research assistant at the ECC Lab. She is particularly interested in exploring forensic and social psychology, and hopes to deepen her knowledge and experience in the field.

Monica Scrocchi
Monica is a psychology undergraduate student in her final year at TMU, with plans to pursue graduate studies in psychology in the fall. Passionate about understanding and supporting children and adolescents, she is particularly focused on mood and anxiety disorders. Monica’s ultimate goal is to open a private practice, providing personalized care to individuals from all walks of life.

Estel Tershana
Estel Tershana is a research assistant in the Early Childhood Cognition Lab and a graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University with a Bachelor’s in Biomedical Science and a minor in Psychology. Estel is passionate about understanding developmental and cognitive processes across the lifespan. She is interested in pursuing a career in clinical neuropsychology, specializing in dementia prevention and cognitive resilience.

Anna Petroseniak
Anna is a second year psychology student at TMU. In addition to her major in psychology, she is pursuing minors in law and French. She is interested in studying the cognitive development of children and is helping with the negativity bias and accent studies that are currently underway at the ECC lab.

Ravital Kofman
Ravital is a Research Assistant in the ECC Lab. She graduated from Biomedical Sciences (HBsc) at TMU with a minor in Psychology and is currently testing, training, and recruiting for White Lie Telling 2/3 and Considerate Behaviour.

Arianna Tzovolos
Arianna completed her BA in Psychology with a minor in English at Toronto Metropolitan University. She is currently working on multiple projects at the ECC lab and plans to attend graduate school in 2026. Her focuses are in developmental psychology and psychopathology. She loves working with children and aims to continue working with them in her future.

Danya Sandler
Danya has her Honours Bachelor of Arts graduate in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario. Her research experiences have focused on child cognition, learning, and the promotion of positive health outcomes. Currently, she works as a psycho-educational psychometrist, applying her assessment expertise to support children and adolescents. She is especially interested in bridging research and practice to advance our understanding of healthy developmental trajectories in young populations. In her free time, she enjoys running, cooking, and spending quality time with family and friends.


Undergraduate Thesis Student
Anika Kaniewski
Anika is currently completing her bachelor of arts in psychology and is working on her undergraduate thesis in the Early Childhood Cognition Lab. Her thesis looks at whether children aged 5-8 years old take into account socio-economic status when making decisions in social situations. In addition, she is also currently helping out on other projects in the lab that look at white lie-telling and considerate behaviour. Anika’s research interests lie in the intersection between educational psychology and developmental psychology. After completing her bachelor’s degree she plans to complete her master’s degree and PhD in Psychology. She aspires to help inform educational policy and practice with her future research.

Jacquie Cook-Martin
Jacquie is a third-year student in the Psychology program at TMU, pursuing a minor in Economics. She is excited at the possibility of using psychological research to inform evidence-based policy that shifts responsibility away from individuals and toward systemic and structural solutions. Her current interests include education access, economic mobility, and the cognitive mechanisms underlying curiosity. Jacquie is also completing her PSY 700 Research Practicum in the Culture | Diversity Lab.


Research Assistant
Barekah Vistro
Barekah is completing her first-year in Psychology at TMU and has a background in Early Childhood Studies. She is interested in the biological and neurological mechanisms that shape health, memory, and well-being, particularly the effects of stress and pain on the brain. She is currently helping with the Accent and Lay Talk studies at the ECC Lab and aspires to pursue graduate studies in clinical psychology or neuroscience.

My name is Rose Lula, and I am a second-year Psychology student at TMU. I am very passionate about working with children and learning about cognitive and developmental psychology. As a new member of the ECC Lab, I am eager to contribute to future studies and grow my knowledge and skills!

Tatiana Kilislian
I recently graduated from TMU with my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and am currently working as an ABA therapist, supporting children with autism spectrum disorder in developing social and communication skills. I am interested in pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, with a focus on child development. My research interests centre on how children’s cognitive development influences their engagement in considerate and prosocial behaviours. I am particularly interested in understanding the factors that contribute to social decision-making and positive peer interactions in childhood.
