He is visiting Toronto Metropolitan University on a 3-month\u00a0UKRI-Globalink\u00a0research placement awarded to him and Dr. Becky Choma for their project proposal looking at Canadian politicians&#8217; rhetoric around Islam and its effects on intergroup contact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John&#8217;s PhD thesis research at Queen&#8217;s has involved analyzing the political rhetoric of nativist populist politicians and news media through a social identity framework, as well as designing a novel social psychological intervention against negative attitudes associated with nativist populism.\u00a0He is a mixed-method researcher, employing both quantitative and qualitative techniques to address research questions, with a particular focus on qualitative methods.<br>Select papers:<br>Shayegh, J., Storey, L., Turner, R.
