John is a final year PhD candidate in social psychology at Queen’s University Belfast. He is visiting Toronto Metropolitan University on a 3-month\u00a0UKRI-Globalink\u00a0research placement awarded to him and Dr. Becky Choma for their project proposal looking at Canadian politicians’ rhetoric around Islam and its effects on intergroup contact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
John’s PhD thesis research at Queen’s has involved analyzing the political rhetoric of nativist populist politicians and news media through a social identity framework, as well as designing a novel social psychological intervention against negative attitudes associated with nativist populism.\u00a0He is a mixed-method researcher, employing both quantitative and qualitative techniques to address research questions, with a particular focus on qualitative methods.
