Geovanna is an MA1 student in the SPP lab. She is an immigrant coming from Brazil and completed her BA studies in Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University in June 2024. She completed her undergraduate thesis and a research project in the SPP lab on self-objectification and women’s psychological health. Her published study explored the impact of femininity, heteronormativity, and heterosexism on women’s sexual wellbeing.
From 2024 to 2026, Geovanna was the lab’s research assistant and lab manager, mainly participating on Dr. Becky Choma’s projects on dynamic norms and intergroup relations. More recently, she contributed to a study in collaboration with the Indigenous Experiences lab (directed by Dr. Iloradanon Efimoff) exploring critical historical educational interventions to promote Truth and Reconciliation in Canada.
Geovanna hopes to continue exploring the social forces shaping women and girls’ experiences with their body image throughout her graduate studies. Her other research interests include ideology, prejudice and attitudes towards marginalized groups, such as women and LGBTQ+ populations.
