Wendy was named to the Winter 2026 Dean&#8217;s List for the Faculty of Arts and received both the Psychology 2025\/2026 Scholar&#8217;s Circle Award and the 25\/26 SASSH Arts Scholars Excellence Award. She&#8217;ll also be joining Dr. Julia Spaniol&#8217;s lab as an incoming Psychology thesis project student this fall.<\/p>\n\n<p>Shapi was named to the Dean&#8217;s List this year and completed an internship at the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Health Equity and Community Wellbeing, where she published a blog post examining FIFA and gender-based violence. She has an upcoming internship for the fall and winter terms with Bridging Divides.<\/p>\n\n<p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/psychlabs.torontomu.ca\/codelab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2026\/08\/USRA-Image-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"CODE Lab USRA recipients\" style=\"float:left;margin:0 16px 12px 0;max-width:300px;width:100%\">\nEden became Executive Vice President of the Psychology Students&#8217; Association, where they launched the Undergraduate Journal of Psychology, and are likely to rejoin the PSA this year as Chair of the Journal. They&#8217;re also working with Dr. Khayambashi on her project on the Iranian queer experience, and their creative non-fiction piece, &#8220;Dowlat,&#8221; was published in White Wall Review and long-listed for the 2026 Clarissa Dalloway Prize for Short Prose.\n\n<p>Jacquie Cook-Martin was awarded the NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award this summer and began work on her 4th-year thesis on curiosity&#8217;s effect on the other-race gaze cueing effect. She&#8217;ll also be starting a Bridging Divides internship for 2026\/2027 under Dr. Jeremie Molho, working on the Arts Impact Partnership.\n<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both\"><\/div>\n\n<p>And congratulations to Saeeda Saadat, who was awarded a Career Boost position as Lab Manager in Dr. Lixia Yang&#8217;s Cognitive Aging Lab at TMU!<\/p>\n<br>\n<p><strong><u>Dr. Ronda Lo and Lab update:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>It&#8217;s been an exciting few months for Dr. Lo and the CODE Lab, from conference presentations abroad to a growing team!<\/p>\n\n<p>Ronda presented at the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) conference in Montreal, giving a data blitz at the Social-Personality Pre-conference titled &#8220;Racial representation in media: Does greater positive representation really work?&#8221;, as well as leading a Pavlovia Surveys workshop. She was also awarded the Faculty of Arts Seed\/Explore Grant from TMU, and this fall she will be giving a talk titled &#8220;Regional culture shapes attention to the social context: A gaze cueing investigation&#8221; at the Culture and Cognition Conference in Istanbul.<\/p>\n\n<p>We are also excited to welcome the lab&#8217;s inaugural graduate student, Alysia Williams, who joins us in September! Look for a post sharing more about her in the fall!<\/p>\n<br>\n<p><strong><u>CODE Lab Graduate Johanna Lewis:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/psychlabs.torontomu.ca\/codelab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2026\/08\/Johanna-Grad-Image-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Johanna Lewis and Dr. Ronda Lo at graduation\" style=\"float:left;margin:0 16px 12px 0;max-width:300px;width:100%\">\nThis year we celebrated the first undergraduate student to complete her time in the CODE Lab. Johanna Lewis has graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (Honours), with minors in Criminology and Social Work. During her final year, she was awarded the Dennis Mock Student Leadership Award, given to graduating students who have made outstanding voluntary extracurricular contributions to their academic program, faculty, and the broader TMU community. She also presented her research at Kaleidoscope, the Faculty of Arts&#8217; student research conference, where her project examined the role of sleep, and insomnia in particular, in the recovery process for individuals living with PTSD.
