Stream), Ryerson University<\/p>\n<p><strong>Research Interests:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Brittany\u2019s research interests lie within the complex interactions between environment and biology that<br \/>\nunderlie developmental outcomes. She is particularly interested in the development of stress physiology<br \/>\nand how early experiences contribute to multisystem regulation across different contexts. Her Master\u2019s<br \/>\nthesis examined the relationship between maternal sensitivity and infant stress reactivity across and<br \/>\nbetween slow- and fast-acting stress systems. Her doctoral dissertation will further explore how aspects<br \/>\nof parenting influence infant regulatory development across behavioural, emotional, physiological and<br \/>\nneural systems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clinical Interests:<\/strong><br \/>\nBrittany is currently a practicum student at Kindercare Psychology. She has previous experience at<br \/>\nHamilton Health Sciences in the Child and Youth Regional Outreach and Urgent Access Clinic and the<br \/>\nFamily Health Team at Toronto\u2019s St. Michael\u2019s Hospital. She has gained experience treating children,<br \/>\nyouth, families, and adults using multiple modalities (e.g., cognitive-behavioural interventions, emotion-<br \/>\nfocused family therapy). Her Master\u2019s thesis examined infant dopamine-related genetic characteristics as<br \/>\nmoderators of the association between maternal depressive symptoms and infant stress hormone<br \/>\n(cortisol) secretion. Her dissertation examines associations between mother-infant attachment,<br \/>\nmaternal history of childhood care, maternal genotypes, and mother-infant cortisol attunement.<br \/>\nThis work helps elucidate the biopsychosocial factors that contribute to the intergenerational<br \/>\ntransmission of attachment, cortisol, and risk for psychopathology.<br \/>\nJaclyn is also involved in clinical research examining the effectiveness of group and<br \/>\nindividualized parent-child treatment for child conduct problems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clinical Interests<\/strong><br \/>\nJaclyn is interested in cognitive-behavioural, acceptance and\u00a0commitment,\u00a0and dialectical-behavioral strategies for the treatment of mood\u00a0and anxiety disorders, disruptive behaviour, trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder, and health issues. She works with children, adolescents, adults, and families. She has completed clinical training at St. Michael\u2019s Hospital Department of Family and Community Medicine (Clinical Psychology Training Clinic), the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (Better Behaviours Service), the Child Development Institute (Integra Program), the Child and Adolescent Psychology (CAP) Centre, and CBT Associates of Toronto. Her<br \/>\nMaster\u2019s research in the Adolescent Dynamics and Bullying Laboratories examined individual<br \/>\ndifferences in emotional processes (e.g., emotion recognition, emotion regulation) among<br \/>\nchildren and adolescents who are chronically victimized by their peers. At present, her doctoral<br \/>\ndissertation in the Biopsychosocial Laboratory is investigating the influence of familial factors,<br \/>\nsuch as parenting practices and attitudes, parent mental health, and parent emotion regulation, on\u00a0children\u2019s abilities and strategies used to regulate their emotions. She has also completed work in\u00a0the Child Self-Regulation Laboratory, conducting research on a transdiagnostic group\u00a0treatment for adolescents with learning disabilities and mental health problems (Integra\u00a0Mindfulness Martial Arts).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clinical Interests:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alex is currently completing a practicum at the ROCK: Reach Out Centre for Kids. She has<br \/>\nworked in the past at St. Michael\u2019s Hospital Department of Community Medicine (Clinical<br \/>\nPsychology Training Clinic) and the Integra Child Development Institute. She is currently registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO), providing assessment and therapy to children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Villani completed her pre-doctoral internship at Children\u2019s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and her post-doctoral fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children (HSC) in the Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) program. In addition to her work at CHLA and HSC, she received clinical training at North York General Hospital (NYGH) and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). Dr. Villani completed her graduate studies in the Biopsychosocial lab, where she produced research on parent-child attachment relationships, and investigated gene-environment models impacting the development of stress response systems and emotion regulation.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Villani provides assessment and therapy\u00a0at Chrysalis Centre and B&amp;C Health,\u00a0targeting depression, anxiety, PTSD, behavioural issues, coping effectively with stress, social skills training, and assertiveness.\u00a0Dr. Villani\u2019s main theoretical orientation is cognitive-behavioural, drawing on psychodynamic, mindfulness\/acceptance, attachment, and strength-based approaches to address individualized therapeutic goals. Jennifer\u2019s research and clinical training has focused on the<br \/>\nearly biological and social influences on development, both typical and atypical,<br \/>\nbeginning in infancy and spanning to later childhood. She completed her pre-doctoral<br \/>\ninternship at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Her dissertation utilized a<br \/>\nmulti-method design, including diverse laboratory stressors, measurement of two<br \/>\ninterrelated neurobiological systems, and assessment of acute and long-term stress in<br \/>\nrelation to child depression. Jennifer\u2019s current work continues to examine stress<br \/>\nneurobiology, with a particular focus on the neuroendocrine stress system, in a sample of<br \/>\nhigh-risk mother-infant dyads. This research examines the complex associations between<br \/>\nmaternal history of maltreatment, maternal-infant interactions, and maternal and infant<br \/>\nneuroendocrine stress responses. She joined the BPSD lab in May 2019 as a volunteer research assistant. Through her work with the Kids in Context study, Venessa has been able to improve her research skills and gain firsthand experience on how the biopsychosocial model is used.
