Become a Participant!

Frame 27 (2)

We are grateful to the parents and children who have participated in our studies. Our research would not be possible without your generous support!

We are currently recruiting infants from birth to 24 months of age for multiple different studies. If you are interested in participating with your infant, please fill out the form below.

What to expect once you’ve completed our form:

  1. If you or your child(ren) are eligible for a study, we will contact you via phone or email (depending on your preference), to schedule you in!
  2. Once you’ve been scheduled in, we will email you with more information about how your specific session will go, along with any instructions or materials you may need (e.g., ZOOM link)
  3. If you or your child(ren) are not eligible for any current studies, you will be contacted as soon as you/they are, or when a study you are eligible for has begun testing.

If you have any questions about these expectations or this form below, please feel free to email us at beelab@torontomu.ca! We look forward to hearing from you!

If you are interested in a particular study but do not want your information in our database for future studies, please email us! We’d be happy to schedule you in to participate!

A typical visit

Online Studies

During an online study, your child will complete fun, game-like activities! These can include playing with toys, computer games, and watching pictures or videos; these can vary depending on the nature of the specific study. For their participation, your child will receive a gift from us as a thank you for helping with our research!

Online visits are conducted via password protected sessions on ZOOM, all from the comfort of your home! Everything is scheduled at your convenience: weekday, evening, and weekend appointments are available. Study sessions typically take between 30 and 60 minutes.

In-person Studies

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are not currently conducting our research in-person. However, as soon as these restrictions are lifted, we look forward to seeing you again at our lab, located on the Toronto Metropolitan University campus at 105 Bond Street, less than a 10 minute walk from Dundas Station! Click here to see detailed information on how to locate us, as well as a map.

Similar to our online studies, in-person visits may involve your child completing game-like activities, such as playing computer games, viewing images/videos, and playing with toys. And of course, your child will receive a gift as a thank you for helping with our research!

Our in-person visits can differ from the online visits, as for some studies we may measure your child’s brain activity using a special method called Event-Related Potentials (ERPs). To measure ERPs, we use a special cap that reads the natural activity of the brain as it is learning and remembering things. ERPs are a completely safe way to figure out what your brain is doing!

You will be with your child throughout the entire study, and your other children are welcome to come along as well if you’d like! We have research assistants who are available to play with any siblings that accompany you to the lab, although we ask that you let us know in advance if siblings will be coming.
