Publication Alert! – Co‑Occurring Obsessive–Compulsive Disorder and Compulsive Sexual Behavior: Clinical Features and Psychiatric Comorbidities

Congratulations to Lindsey Snaychuk, Masters student in the ADMH Lab, on her recent publication: “Co‑Occurring Obsessive–Compulsive Disorder and Compulsive Sexual Behavior: Clinical Features and Psychiatric Comorbidities” in Archives of Sexual Behavior!

This study was conducted in collaboration with colleagues in Brazil and examined the characteristics of co-occurring compulsive sexual behaviour (CSB) among 950 patients seeking treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).

What did we find?
– 3.8% of the patients met criteria for co-occurring OCD and CSB
– Men were more likely to meet criteria for both OCD and CSB
– People with both OCD and CSB had greater psychiatric comorbidities and in particular impulse control disorders, which
suggests that tailored interventions for this group may need to focus on externalizing symptoms and the impulse control
spectrum
